Kenya is one of the most popular Safari
destinations in Africa.
This country in East Africa covers an area of about 586,600km
sq. and has extraordinary topographical diversity which includes
inland water ways like Lake Victoria, glaciated mountains,
the Rift Valley, volcanoes, desert landscapes and coral reefs.
Kenya has considerable land area dedicated to wild life, including
the Masai Mara, site of the annual large scale Blue
Wildebeest migration, Amboseli with its lush swamplands and large elephant
populations, and Tsavo one of Africa’s largest wilderness
reserves.
Travellers can also visit the wild and sparsely
populated Laikipia, the gateway to Kenya’s
wild Northern frontier country, Sambura,
Shara and Buffalo Springs on the The Ewaso
Nyiro river, and the lush green eden of Meru,
one of Kenya’s larger parks and reserves.
The "Big Five" animals
of Africa are found
abundantly in Kenya: the lion, leopard, buffalo,
rhinoceros and elephant.
Significant populations of other wild animals
and reptiles can be found in the national
parks and game reserves in the country. Kenya
is also a bird watchers paradise
with over 1200 species.
Being close to the equator, Kenya has a tropical
climate- hot and humid at the coast, temperate
inland and very dry in the northern parts
of the country. The highest rainfall occurs
between March and May, with moderate rain
in October and November. The temperature
remains high throughout these months.
