The Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga is South Africa largest
wildlife and safari park. The area is home to the Big Five
of Africa and offers many eco-adventures as well as plenty
of accommodation at rest camps including self-catering chalets,
bungalows, tents, bushveld camps and private safari lodges.
All of the park's main rest camps including Skukuza, Berg-en-Dal,
Lower Sabie, Pretoriuskop, Mopani and Shingwedzi have
restaurant and shopping facilities for both curios and basic
provisions.
The Kruger Park ranks among the best wildlife experiences in
Africa and hosts a vast number of living species including
over 500 bird and 150 mammal types.
First proclaimed in 1898 as the Sabie Game Reserve, the park
now covers an area of nearly 2 million hectares, and is a vast
conservancy of cultural heritage, archeological sites and bio-diversity.
SANParks, who manage the Kruger National Park work with the
most advanced environmental management techniques to maintain
this unique environment for generations to come.
The Kruger Park's main attraction is the Big Five of Africa
- lion, elephant, black and white rhino, buffalo and leopard.
You will enjoy close contact and good photographic opportunities
with these and other animals and may see them hunting, feeding
and interacting in their family groups and herds.
Wildlife encounters in the Kruger Park can
be experienced from the comfort of your own vehicle, on a guided
tour or 4x4 excursion, or for the more adventurous, a guided
walking safari.
Apart from the Big Five you will see many other interesting
wild animals including zebra, kudu, impala, water buck and
springbok. Wildebeest, crocodile, warthogs and giraffe are
also fairly common. Mischievous vervet monkeys and baboons
hang around in troops and often enter the camps for a bit of
fun. If you are lucky
you will
see the graceful King Cheetah moving at speed across a grassy
plain, or witness a predator kill at one of the many waterholes
in the Kruger.
Be sure that you also look out for the Birding Big Six– Ground
Hornbill, Kori Bustard, Lappet- faced Vulture, Martial Eagle,
Pel’s Fishing Owl and Saddle-bill Stork as well as the
famous Baobab and Marula trees.
At the Kruger Park's you will experience the unique atmosphere
of a true wild African experience. By day your senses will
take in the warm savannah breezes, the sharp clear light and
the rich fauna and flora of the bushveld. At night you will
hear the sounds of wild animals as you relax by the fire and
feel the excitement of knowing that a lion or elephant
could be just around the next corner!
