South Africa is home to almost 1000 species of birds and is one of the top birdwatching countries in the world. Over fifty endemic species include the African Penguin, Knysna Loerie and Blue Crane. Hundreds of species of migrants from Africa, the Arctic, Europe, Central Asia, China and Antarctica visit our shores each year, providing excellent opportunities for birdwatching.

The best birdwatching regions are Kwazulu Natal, Mpumalanga and the Western Cape but great sightings can be made in many other parts of the country. On the longer tours visitors can see up to 400-500 species in a variety of habitats including coastal, wetlands, forest and grasslands. While you're in South Africa try to see the Black Eagle, Cape Sugarbird, Black Oystercatcher, Spotted Eagle Owl, Crested Barbet and White Pelican. South African birds will delight and surprise you with their variety, colour and character!
