South Africa's several thousand kilometers of coastline stretches from 27 degrees to 35 degrees south and offers a diverse collection of marine ecosystems to the diving enthusiast. On the east coast the tropical Mozambique current flows southwards bringing warm waters to top dive spots like Sordwana Bay, which features the most southerly coral reefs in the world.

Many colourful small fish species are found in these warm waters as well as turtles, manta rays, giant moray eels and ragged tooth sharks. The South Coast is home to the world famous Sardine Run. This annual migration of massive shoals of sardines brings a large following of gamefish, dolphins and whales. On the West Coast the colder Benguela current supports large kelp forests which host a colourful array of sea anenomes, nudibranches, sponges and other small creatures. The southern Cape coast has been the setting for many popular marine documentaries and is possibly the best location in the world to view the Great White Shark and a variety of sea mammals.
