Birdmen Paragliding is based in the Northern suburbs of Cape Town and is owned and run by Barry Pedersen. Barry is a qualified advanced pilot with well over 1700 flights, a SAPHA Instructor for Paragliding & Powered Paragliding. He is also a qualified Commercial Tandems Pilot for both power and mountain flying. Birdmen offers paragliding instruction, tandem flights, day trips and tours.

During his formative years, Barry Pederson spent many happy hours assisting his uncle pioneer hang gliding in South Africa. During a visit to Switzerland in 1996 he started paragliding and developed a true love for this artful form of aviation. In 2003, Candice, Barry's wife joined Birdmen Paragliding and together they run the quality selection of paragliding experiences.

So, if you have ever wanted to learn how to paraglide, or have the need to experience a tandem flight, or would like to safely fly Cape Town & surrounding area --- there is no better way to do it than with Barry and Birdmen.

For tandem flights, no prior paragliding experience is required. Passengers are seated and strapped into a harness that is attached to the pilot. The only passenger input required is a little run on take-off and landing.

Passengers wear a flight suit. Passengers are required to sign an indemnity form & flying is undertaken entirely at their own risk. Passenger transport to and from the site can be arranged.

The average tandem flight lasts for about 15 - 25 minutes. All flights are weather dependent. The sites that are generally flown are Lion's Head, Signal Hill, Sir Lowry's Pass, Hermanus and Franschhoek.

Passengers to bring their own water, sun block and a warm jacket.

The cost of the Tandem Paraglide is R850 and booking must be done with Barry or Candice on 27 82 658 6710 or via email birdmen@xsinet.co.za. Gift vouchers are available.

1 Day - Paragliding Trips
Birdmen Paragliding offers fully guided day trips. Cape Town sites each have their own micro met & changing conditions and can be fairly dangerous to unfamiliar pilots. It is recommended that all visiting pilots be guided for the first time. Birdmen also offers tours from 3 days to 3 weeks and tandem flights with experienced pilots.
