Below are some the popular day walks and hikes on Table Mountain on offer from Hikecapetown.

Southern Suburbs

Smut’s Track: Trace the popular route of one of South Africa’s most famous statesman. Start – top gate – Kirstenbosch – up Skeleton Gorge along Smuts’ Track to Maclear’s Beacon (at 1086m the highest point on Table Mountain), along the front face with the spectacular bird’s-eye view of the city – down Platteklip Gorge or take the cable car. 4-6hrs.

Skeleton Gorge + Disa Gorge: Start top gate – Kirstenbsoch – up Skeleton Gorge, around the reservoir, up Disa Gorge, (optional detour to Maclear’s Beacon) back down Nursery Ravine – ending at Top-Gate again. 4-6 hrs.

Atlantic Seaboard

Tranquility Cracks: Start top of Rontree Estate – up onto Pipe Track – along track with views of the Atlantic all the way – up Corridor Ravine (a fairly gentle route up) – back along top – visit the amazing cracks with a superb view point – great for a snack stop, continue back along the top – (optional detour to the reservoirs and museum), back down Kasteels Poort. 4-6 hrs.

Valley of the Red Gods: Up Kasteels Poort – into Valley of the Red Gods, Valley of Isolation and Echo Valley (Interesting valleys, great outdoor shower & a great resting spot with awesome views). Down Diagonal route or Kasteels Poort. 4- 6 hrs.

City Side

India Venster: Up India Venster – follow the lines of the cable car wires – up to just below Africa ledge – Round the mountain, over the front to Camps Bay side – up Fountain Ravine – down Platteklip or Cable Car (optional Detour to Maclear’s Beacon) 4-6hrs. Involves some minor rock scrambling with one quite tricky bit.

Platteklip Gorge: Up Platteklip (more straightforward but far less interesting than Indian Venster), to Maclear’s Beacon and back along the face. Down Platteklip or Cable car. 4 – 41/2hours.

Other alternatives:

- Devil’s Peak: interesting rock scrambles and spectacular knife edge.
- Silvermine Nature reserve: a variety to choose from.
- Hout Bay Mountains: Chapman’s Peak, Kaptein’s Peak.
- Kalk Bay Mountains
