4 Day - Zululand Experience

A perfect opportunity to gain an insight into the culture of the Zulu people and to explore the wilderness areas of Kwa-Zulu Natal. This tour covers the cultural way of life of the Zulus and you experience an insight into their traditions. The tour continues to St.Lucia Wetland Park which has been proclaimed a World Heritage Site, and then onto our base, Bonamanzi Game Reserve (or Bushlands Lodge) where most evenings are spent having dinners under the stars whilst listening to the many night sounds.

More about this tour
The tour to Hluhluwe/Imfolozi , home to the “Big 5”, starts early to enable us to search for the elusive animals and birds that are to be found. We enjoy a full day game viewing and have a lunch time barbeque next to the Black Umfolozi River. The day ends with many memories of another day in Africa - what an experience!The tour continues back to Durban on the last day, stopping for lunch and taking in some historic sites along the way.

Price: ZAR R6800 per person sharing on dinner bed and breakfast rate. This is an indication and will be confirmed on enquiry / booking. 50 % deposit required.

Itinerary

 Day 1 - Durban – Simunye Zulu Lodge +- 4 HRS.  
You will be met and briefed by Allen of LEOPARD TRACK SAFARIS at 8.30 am. This interesting drive takes up the North Coast of Kwazulu Natal through the sugar cane farms that proliferate. This area soon to give way to the traditional home of the Zulu people. Here the adventurer gets the opportunity to take in the numerous settlements that dot the surrounding hills as we proceed northwards. There will be several convenience stops along the way. Our lunch stop will be in the town of Eshowe, known for some early Zulu Battles. Then onto Simunye Zulu Lodge where we will be taken into the valley by our hosts, The Zulus of the area. The evening will be punctuated by Zulu dancing, chanting and story telling whilst you enjoy a traditional fireside meal. Your accommodation has all the modern conveniences and is very comfortable, whilst having a local Zulu flavour. (D)

 Day 2: Simunye Lodge - Bonamanzi  
You will probably wake to the sound of the dawn chorus of birds that proclaims a new and exciting day in Africa. After a leisurely breakfast it is time to say farewell and depart for the next part of our adventure. This takes us to the St. Lucia Wetland Park, which has been proclaimed a World Heritage Site. This area is home to hippos, many crocodiles, elephants, leopard, buffalo and both species of rhino. After lunch in the coastal village of St. Lucia you will have the opportunity to go on a launch cruise to view hippos and crocodiles close up along with a host of water birds that occur in this area. At dusk we will drive into our lodge for the next 2 nights called “Bonamanzi” (see water). Most evenings are spent having dinner under the starts whilst listening to the many night sounds. Your en-suite accommodation is air conditioned and very comfortable. Enjoy! (BD)

 Day 3 - Bonamanzi – Hluhluwe/Imfolozi Game Reserve  
To-day we make an early start to enable us to search for the elusive animals and birds that are to be found in the Hluhluwe/Imfolozi Game Reserve. These reserves are home to the “Big 5” and especially the black and white Rhino. This is an all day trip including a lunch time barbeque (South African Braai) next to the Black Umfolozi River. In winter this area offers superb game viewing and you are assured of returning to the lodge with many memories and photo’s of another day in Africa. What an experience. You will be welcomed back to Bonamanzi for an evening drink and dinner and to share the many experiences of the day. (BLD)

 Day 4 - Bonamanzi - Durban  
After an early morning game drive at Bonamanzi it is time to experience a South African breakfast to beat all. This is a leisurely affair to be totally enjoyed. This is their way of saying we hope you enjoyed your stay, It is once again time to say goodbye and slowly wind our way back to Durban, stopping for lunch and taking in some of the historic sites along the way. Our Zululand experience ends around 4.00pm back where we started. (B)
